Homeopathy for Ear Infections

In order for homeopathy to work, a match needs to be made between the patient's symptoms and symptoms of the remedy. If a match is not made, the remedy will not do anything. Below is a list of the most common remedies used in ear infections and symtoms indicating the remedy.

Dosage

Standard dosage is to take 3 pellets of 30C every 4 hours.

Pulsatilla

Typically when a child need pulsatilla it is fairly easy to spot. The most striking symptoms will appear in the child's dispostion. They will be very whiny, clingy, weepy and want to be held constantly. Usually the child will cling to the mother and cry in a pitiful manner. Usually the child will be hot and will feel much better if you take them outside in the open air. If there is any discharge from the nose or ear it will be thick, green, yellow, and very bland. They are typically thirstless and will not want to drink.

Mercurious

Mercurius is another very common remedy. It usually affects the right ear. If there is a discharge from the nose or ear it is Yellow-green and offensive. In general the sickness causes the body to secrete offensive odors. There will be offensive sweat, offensive breath, if there are ear discharges they are offensive. At night you may notice the child drools because of increased salivation. The child may also complain of a severe sore throat.

Chamomilla

Like Pulsatilla, Chamomilla is usually spotted by the temperment. These children are angry because of the pain and become very discontented. They will be soothed if presented with a new toy or carried to a new room but then suddenly will be angry again. They need to be constantly carried or rocked to help distract them from the pain. Usually the will have a fever and you will see that they have one cheek that is very red and one very pale. They also seem to be worse at around 9pm.

Silicea

Silicea is a common remedy for chronically recurring ear infections. Typically there will be discharge from the ear and it will smell like old cheese. They are very chilly and want to be wrapped warmly. The pain in the ear often makes the child bore their finger into the ear.

Belladonna

When a child needs belladonna the symptoms always begin very rapidly. The child will be well one minute and the next they will have a high fever and be very sick. Usually this remedy is need at the very beginning of an infection and if given soon enough will stop the entire sickness. With the high fever there will be a bright, red, flushed face.
